Kingshill Physiotherapy Centre
We are proud that our business centres allow for all types of businesses from gyms, cafes to healthcare businesses. We are lucky enough to have several physiotherapists at Churchill Square Business Centre. Maxim Gorham however has been providing musculoskeletal physiotherapy services in Kings Hill since 2020, offering more than just physiotherapy but also chiropractic and osteopathic practices.
Never too late to start a career
Maxim’s path into physiotherapy was far from conventional. Having studied design, photography and applied sciences to go into web design, physiotherapy was far from his plan. However, after gaining an interest in weightlifting and anatomy, he decided to look at alternative career paths: “I realised I wanted to go into physiotherapy or chiropractic care,” Maxim explains, “The decision was cemented by the opportunity to pursue an NHS-funded physiotherapy degree at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.”
After graduating, Maxim gained invaluable experience working in various NHS and private practices, specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. His journey led him back to Kent, where he initially set up his practice at a local gym before moving to Churchill Square in 2020.
Moving into serviced offices at Churchill Square
Maxim describes his move to Churchill Square as one of the best decisions he’s made. “I found the space by chance online and didn’t realise how lucky I was to secure the room I’m in,” he recalls. The accessibility of his ground-floor space, proximity to reception, and large waiting area have been invaluable for his clients, many of whom use crutches or wheelchairs.
Kings Hill Physiotherapy Centre focuses on musculoskeletal physiotherapy, treating issues such as back pain, neck pain and joint injuries. Maxim’s broad skill set, enriched by training in chiropractic and osteopathy techniques, allows him to offer a range of treatments, including massage, acupuncture, and ultrasound therapy for people aged 11 and up.
Physiotherapy as a solution
Physiotherapy is about getting people back to full function, not just pain relief, Maxim explains. He works with clients from initial assessment right through to rehabilitation, tailoring their treatment plans to ensure the best possible outcomes. His dedication to ethical practice is at the heart of his business, with a focus on fixing the issue rather than creating long-term dependency.
Adapting through challenges
Maxim’s journey hasn’t been without its challenges. The pandemic struck just months after starting his business, forcing him to pivot quickly. “With the gym closed, I had no premises, but I found work with NHS Test and Trace to keep things going,” he says. The move to Churchill Square allowed him to re-establish his practice and grow his client base.
Tips for starting your own business
Maxim shares three key tips for anyone looking to start their own business:
- Take the leap early: “Starting out when I had fewer commitments made it easier to take risks.”
- Automate and simplify: “A streamlined booking system and minimal admin allow me to focus on clients and keep things manageable as a one-person business.”
- Build gradually: “You don’t need everything upfront. Grow your equipment and offerings over time.”
