Why our cow is over the moon
What it’s all about
‘Herd about MK’ supports three local Milton Keynes charities, one of which is Willen Hospice. Fundraising manager, Dawn Clark, said: ‘The Hospice is based at a quiet lakeside location in Milton Keynes and offers specialist end-of-life care to the local community. Being an independent charity, Willen Hospice needs to raise around £3.6 million every year from the local community and greatly relies on the support of fundraising initiatives such as ‘Herd about MK’.’
To infinity and beyond
The Milton Keynes Business Centre’s cow has been dressed as an astronaut and named Ann-Dromeda the Space Cow: ‘Ann-Dromeda will be based at the Hospice during our ‘Marquee Week’ of fundraising events between 20th and 24th June. She will also be at the Hospice’s biggest fundraiser of the year, the MK Midnight Moo walk on 15th July. After she finishes her tour with the Hospice, Ann-Dromeda will go back to the Milton Keynes Business Centre before joining other cows in a parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Milton Keynes.
‘The support we’ve had from the Milton Keynes Business Centre and other organisations in getting involved in ‘Herd about MK’ is just fantastic. As one of the three charities benefiting from this initiative, we’d like to say a huge thank you for the support and generosity of everyone involved. We’re also very much looking forward to Ann-Dromeda the Space Cow joining us at some of our summer fundraising events!’
About Willen Hospice
Willen Hospice is an independent charity offering specialist care to individuals with life limiting illnesses: ‘Our dedicated team of doctors, nurses, social care professionals and other health care staff provide round-the-clock care to our patients and provide ongoing care and support for their families. Being diagnosed with a life-limiting illness can often leave people in a lonely, uncertain, and confusing place; our care looks to give individuals comfort, help them find confidence, ease their pain and reduce their anxiety.
‘Willen Hospice offers an in-patient unit at the Hospice, a dedicated community team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and Hospice at Home staff, a Patient & Family Services team offering bereavement support and a drop-in Wellbeing Centre giving those not staying at the Hospice access to our services.’
All of Willen Hospice’s fantastic work is offered free of charge. To do this, they need to raise £7 a minute every single minute from January 1st to 31st December. We’re delighted that we are doing our small part to support them.
