Finding balance in work and life
Our customer Paul Woodger and founder of Mivvy Creative is set to make the once radical step of moving to a four-day working week. The decision was made after his own struggle of balancing work, being a father to two young sons and a desire to reward his two employees.
Mivvy Creative is poised to move into bigger premises at our Churchill Square site in Kings Hill after continued success throughout the pandemic. We spoke to him about his business story, his experience working remotely and his vision for the future.
Four is the new five
Speaking to Paul, it was clear that the last 18 months have altered his view on how he envisions the future for Mivvy Creative. Working smarter and not harder seems to be the mantra going forward.
“The pandemic has shown that we don’t live in a 9-5 world anymore, and one of the effects of lockdown for me is that I was working all the time. There is a need to get the work done of course, but we can manage the load in a different way to the traditional working week.”
Paul hopes that a more streamlined four day working week will strike the perfect balance for him and his small team.
“Work isn’t why we live after all, it’s part of life.”
Growing within Capital Space
Paul has come a long way since the early days of working from his mother in law’s spare room. Our space in Churchill Square was the ideal move for Paul in terms of location and it gave him a more professional environment to meet clients in.
“The meetings rooms are great; the whole vibe is friendly and welcoming and there’s no premium to have an office with a window. Being close enough for the school run is always an added bonus too!”
So, when upgrading his office size it’s no surprise that he knew staying at the Kings Hill location was ideal for Mivvy Creative.
Adapting to Covid demands
Mivvy Creative were very lucky that they were able to thrive during the pandemic with their boutique design agency doubling throughout 2020 because their brick-and-mortar clients had to suddenly adapt to the online world.
“I was one of the lucky ones as our business is built on many digital services and many of our clients required branding and website expertise, I was kept very busy!
The secret behind Mivvy’s success
Paul attributes referrals as his biggest source of new leads and emphasises Mivvy’s willingness to adapt to their client’s wide ranging and often fluid needs. His tip for new business owners?
“Remember to take time away because time off is just as important as the work. A break doesn’t mean you’ll arrive any slower. Time away gives you the clarity to see where you’re going and allows you to double-down and focus when you’re working. If you’re passionate about something, then keep plugging away at it and it will come good.”
The future
With Paul’s determination we know big things are coming for this business.
“I wouldn’t say I was ambitious, but I am learning how to be. In the future my goal is just to grow the team to comfortably handle the influx of new clients.”
We admire Paul’s dedication and his growth despite the challenges thrown his way. This is a testament to his strong work ethic and and we can’t wait to see him flourish in his new office space!
