Our Eco Champions kick start our new green friendly ideas
Seven volunteers from across our business centres have volunteered to be our new Eco Champions to discuss and plan current and future green initiatives within Capital Space. Our ECs have been assembled to promote greener living and working across the business. In time, we hope our efforts will make it easier for our customers to be kinder to the environment too! Read on to see what they have been up to so far!
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Technology is moving at lightning speed, so it’s no surprise that IT equipment and mobile devices end up in the back of cupboards and ultimately, the scrapheap. Luckily companies such as the Stone Group and Eco Green IT Recycling collect unwanted tech in line with the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive. As a result of the discussion, our Eco Champions will be initiating the organisation of IT recycling in each of their centres.
More generally, it was noted that the new Addis color-coded recycling bins have been successful at the Milton Keynes Business Centre with a marked improvement in waste separation. All Eco Champions will review waste in communal areas and improve wherever possible.
Greener transport
The issue of customers and visitors leaving car engines running in the car park at Chelmsford was also highlighted as a problem across many other centres. It was agreed to review signage in order to address this and encourage customers to change their habits.
As we head into warmer spring weather, cycling to work becomes a more attractive option for customers. Our on-site bike racks allow safe storage throughout the day and are available at every centre except Sittingbourne who are considering this initiative too.
The Queen’s Jubilee Green Canopy Campaign
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree-planting initiative created to encourage people from across the United Kingdom to ‘Plant a tree for the Jubilee.’ Already in progress at Milton Keynes, the idea will be proposed for all centres.
Our Eco Champions will meet regularly to ensure our centres are as environmentally friendly as possible and facilities are available for our customers to participate in our efforts. To play your part, consider having an eco-audit to find areas of improvement for your business.
